Developing & Assessing Approaches to Learning Skills
Integrate, develop & assess ATL skills authentically.
Developing & Assessing Approaches to Learning Skills is a self-paced mini course for teachers who know ATL skills matter but aren't sure how to teach and assess them authentically within inquiry.
You've got the PYP rubrics. You know the five ATL categories. But in practice, it's hard to teach these skills explicitly without the teaching taking over the inquiry. It's even harder to assess them without it feeling like another checklist you're checking off. Most teachers either ignore ATL assessment altogether, or they tack it on as an afterthought, disconnected from the actual learning.
This course shows you how to weave ATL skill development into the fabric of your inquiry unit so it feels natural and how to assess those skills in a way that actually informs your teaching. You'll learn:
- The mindset shift that makes ATL teaching authentic (not performative)
- Which ATL skills naturally emerge during different phases of inquiry (and how to notice them)
- How to teach a specific ATL skill within your inquiry unit, not as a separate lesson
- The difference between assessing ATL skills and assessing whether students are using them
- How to give feedback on ATL skills that students actually understand and can act on
- Real assessment examples showing what it looks like at different grade levels
- Common mistakes teachers make when teaching ATL skills (and how to avoid them)
- How to build ATL assessment into your unit plan so you're not scrambling at the end
ATL skills aren't extras, they're at the heart of inquiry. Learn to teach and assess them in a way that actually moves your students forward.
Lifetime access. Learn at your own pace.
