It is no secret that I loathe math. I am always looking for creative ways to make it far more interesting than I believe it to be. Granted, there are “math folks” who will disagree with my opinion. Anyway, my latest dilemma is multiplication. How does one make long multiplication interesting?
Stand back in awe….. Crossfitters move over…. This is how I teach long multiplication. ! (no mocking)
In pairs: burpees, mountain climbers, sit ups and jumping jacks. Each pair recorded their count within a minute and multiplied their answers! Yay! Passed the hour, kept the kids engaged and learning went on! For those kids who were more challenged with multiplication,we welcomed practice with arrays and multiplying their two digits exercise count with one digit of their choice. e.g. 28 jumping jacks x 4 kids.
